Local ski resorts mapL'Ecuela, The Old School is situated only 10-15 minutes drive from the centre of Morzine and many of the local ski and snowboarding pistes. The chalet rental sits in a peaceful location in Les Onchets, a small hamlet above the village of St Jean D'Aulps, part of the Portes du Soleil in the Haute Savoie region of France in the French Alps.

The Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest linked ski and snowboard areas in the world- so it really is an amazing place to come for your winter holiday. With over 600 km of piste to enjoy you can easily come here year on year and never ski the same place twice! You can enjoy the rolling powder fields of Les Gets one day, then the steeper, more challenging runs of the Avoriaz ski area the next. On snowy days shelter in the trees of Lindarets before heading higher when the sun comes out. The views as you head from Avoriaz to Chatel can’t be beaten. BIATHLON: Initiation possible at the ESF in Morzine or Avoriaz, or during special animations in some resorts

BOWLING: There are two bowling alleys in Avoriaz to keep you entertained on bad weather days or one in Thonon les Bains (40mins)

CINEMA: there are cinemas in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets showing movies in Fernch and Original Version (VOST)

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: There are fabulous opportunities for cross-country skiing in the Portes du Soleil, along superb, panoramic routes that follow the area's contours, in forests and elsewhere. In total, 280km of signposted routes to choose from.

FITNESS & YOGA: fitness and yoga classes are available in all ski resorts. 

HELI-SKIING: is not permitted in France, but some ski schools, adventure companies and mountain guide companies will offer a pick-up/drop-off heli skiing service to Italy or Switzerland.

HELICOPTER FLIGHTS: Daily panoramic helicopter flights are available (weather permitting) with a number of local flight companies. 

HORSE-DRAWN SLEIGH RIDES: are available in all large resorts and are the main form of transport as
Avoriaz is a traffic-free resort horses double up as taxis here - to get you from the car park to your apartment, out for the night, anywhere in fact that you want to go. 

HORSE RIDING: Leaving the beaten track for a timeless horseride is a simple way of enjoying the mountains AND IS POSSIBLE EVEN IN THE SNOW. Our accredited horseriding guide will take you through authentic and unspoilt Aulps Valley.

HUSKY SLEDGING:  There's no need to go to Canada, Alaska or Scandinavia to experience this unique activity, as professional dog and sledge handlers are on hand here in the Portes du Soleil and in the Bellevaux La Chèvrerie area of the Espace Roc d'Enfer ski resortto show you what to do

ICE DIVING: is possible in Lac Montriond

ICE RINKS: either outdoors in La Grande Terche, Morzine, Avoriaz or Les Gets or indoors at the Parc des Dérèches

INDOOR SWIMMING: including an Indoor swimming Pool/Spa in Morzine and Aquariaz in Avoriaz

NORDIC WALKING / SNOWSHOEING: There are many hiking routes available in winter. It's therefore possible for everyone to enjoy the magnificent panoramas and trails on offer in the Portes du Soleil, including in our local area. Please visit the local tourist office for details.

PARAGLIDING / PARAPENTING: There are a great number of clubs and organisations in the area whose sole purpose is give you the experience of flying

RAQUETT'ARC: Snowshoes, with a bow and arrow, all necessary equipment is provided to implement the activity

SKI JOERING / HORSE-DRAWN SKIING: This age-old activity, consisting of being pulled along on skis by a horse, is made for all those animal lovers who are also passionate about rich experiences. Many resorts in the Portes du Soleil offer ski joering.


SKI TOURING: Along the winter season, the Vallée d'Aulps challenge offers 6 events that take place in Morzine and the Vallée d’Aulps (infos: Tourist Office).You can either enlist the help of a professional or enjoy ski touring by yourself – and take advantage of the Haute-Savoie’s most stunning mountain views (Chablais, Mont-Blanc…).

SLEDGING: There are plenty of lovely sledging areas, including up the hill, right behind he chalet. Feel free to borrow a sledge from the chalet entrance hall. You can also go up in the cable car and then sledge down the Pléney ski runs at night. Night sledding also takes place in Avoriaz on a special 3km long track. Go up using the ski lifts and come down on a sledge with a head torch. Minimum age 16 in Avoriaz.

SNOWMOBILING / SKIDOOING: Snowmobiling can be a fun, fast, snowy activity. It is held in the evenings, from 5.30pm to 10.30pm in Morzine and Avoriaz
